Today the monastery is not served by monks. However, believers go there, to the Chestnut mountain, to admire the age of the monastery. The mountain is presumably the ancient Knakalos. The Tripoli-Patras crossroad, just outside Vlacherna gives the traveller an opportunity to go back in time. The only survivor is the catholic monastery which sticks out amongst the trees. The view from the open space of the church is unique. The monastery played a strategic role in the uprising. The most extensive area of Vlacherna-Hotousas is the dominion of the ancient city Kafiai. Ruins from this important hamlet still survive. In ‘Arcadia’ by Pausanias there are many references to this area. Neighbouring Vlacherna is 32 km from Tripoli and 7 km from Levidi.
